Prayer Requests:
Please continue to remember my brother -in- law, Joe Clark
who has cancer.
I always need your prayers. The spinal cord stimulator helps some when I ride in the car or have to sit for long periods of time, but it does not give total relief. Siezures are still a problem. I can't stand to look at bright lights or the sun. This can bring on a siezure.
My son, Jimmy is having a heart cath the day after Thanksgiving. The doctors think he has some blocked arteries. Please keep him him your prayers.
Remember Jeanette who also is having a heart procedure on Monday.
Remember my niece, Lynn, she is having a lot of pain which interupts her sleep at night.  God has moved miracously for her in the former situation that I asked you to pray about. We give him all the glory for answered prayer. Her grandson who was in and out of the hospital so much as an infant just celebrated his first birthday. He is doing well.

Ministry BulletinMy husband Earl received his preaching liscence a few months ago, from the Church of God, Cleveland, Tennessee association. He has been in the ministry for 48 years. If you want to hear some good preaching or teaching, we are available for appointments. He teaches and preaches regularly at the Waneta Church of God in Jackson County, KY. We are also available to visit churches and sing. Earl has sang with several groups before, and we sing together. We both write songs.

Below is a new poem. Hope you will be blessed and encouraged.

There Is a Place

By Phyllis A. Powell

There is a place

where my heart longs to be.

It's a place where my saviour

at last I shall finally see.

It's a place of such beauty

my eyes have never seen.

I hope it's filled with flowers

and fields of emerald green.

Up there there will be no dying,

no tears or aching pain,

no loss of precious loved ones,

and hearts will never break again.

I'd like to spend more time

with loved ones here below,

but I can't help looking forward

to that blessed time when I must go.

I hope that you will join me

in that land so bright and fair,

where I'll see loved ones gone on

and my blessed Jesus will be there.

So don't grieve for me when I go,

just be ready when He calls,

for I'll be living in my mansion

in that land where night never falls.

My mind cannot imagine

how lovely heaven will be,

for there is a place my precious Lord

prepared in heaven just for me.

Because We Must

Phyllis A. Powell May 19,2009

We bear some heavy burdens

while on our journey here on earth

Our cross may get hard to bear

and sometimes life gets rough.

Today there may be sunshine.

Tomorrow maybe there'll be rain.

But God is just a prayer away.

Call upon Him, don't be ashamed.

It's hard to lose a loved one

watch them lowered in the ground.

But through the precious Holy Spirit,

sweet comfort can be found.

Remember the blessed promises

our lord and savior gave.

You will see them again,

another time, and in a better place.

He said He'd never leave us.

He'll go with us to the end.

If we look for his appearing,

a crown of life we'll surely win.

He's prepared for us a mansion

in Heaven bright and fair.

There'll be no grief or sorrow,

no pain and suffering will be there.

So, when we're tired and weary.

To make it through, it will be tough.

Just rest in the arms of Jesus.

We'll survive, because we must!

Stuff Happens:

Text: 1Peter 4:12 "Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:"

When I think about the Scripture from which I'm taking my text today, I'm reminded of a commercial for a local hospital emergency room. The commerical showed a man getting out of a car. His coat got hung in the door, and the driver sped away, dragging the man with him. Then the name of the hospital and the words. "stuff happens." appeared on the screen.

As the scripture says, don't think it strange that you will go through trials. We will have trouble in this life.

Job 14:1 reads: "Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble." Job was speaking from experience. God allowed satan to tempt Job because He knew that Job would not give in to satan's temptations. In the process of being tempted, Job lost everything he had. He lost his livestock, his wealth, and even his children.

Job's own wife told him that he should just curse God and die. Job told her she spoke as a foolish woman, and he held out until the trial was over. In the end, God gave Job back twice as much as he had lost. That's how God is when He takes something away, He always gives something better in return.

Job said, "when I am tried, I shall come forth as gold." When gold is refined, it goes through the fire, and comes out pure gold. That's the way we can come out of our troubles and trials if we trust God and don't give up.

Romans 8:18 reads: " For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us." The trials may be hard, but we will come out stronger in the end. Our faith will be strengthened and we will be able to testify of how God's love and grace brought us through our sickness, heartache or what ever problem we had.

John 16:33 "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." Jesus said that we would have tribulation in this present world, but that we should be of good cheer. In Him we can have peace because Jesus has overcome the world and we can also if Jesus abides in us and we abide in Him.

If you are going through some things that are hard to bear, Jesus promised He would be with us, even to the end of the world. Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us. Even when He seems far away, He is as close as a prayer away. We can come boldly unto the throne of grace and find help in the time of trouble.

When you face problems in this life, remember, you are not the only one who is going through some bad things. Trouble comes to all of us. Stuff happens and it happens to everyone, we are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ. His grace is sufficent for every need. We just need to place our trust in Him, and He will see us through.

Coming Up Out of the Mire

In Psalms 40 verse 2 , David said: "He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings."

We know that mire is mud, and clay is a red sticky type of mud. If our feet were stuck in a batch of red sticky clay, or in quick sand, we might just keep sinking farther and farther down into the mud. In the passage of Scripture above, the miry clay represents sin. If we're not careful when we go our own way, and not God's way, we can sink farther and farther into sin, and as if we were in the mud, it is hard to pull our feet out of it.

When we are bogged down into the miry clay of sin, God can reach down and pull us up out of the mire and set our feet upon a rock--a firmer foundation. Christ is that rock--that firm foundation. He is referred to in Scripture as the "Rock of Salvation," or the "Chief Cornerstone."

Only God can bring us up out of the mire of sin. When Jesus died upon the cross, He made a way that we can get out of the mire of sin. We can have forgiveness and cleansing from sin. If we believe that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, we can be saved. (see Romans: 10: 9-13)

After Jesus rose from the grave, He walked on earth for 40 days. During that time, He appeared to his disciples, Mary and others. Then in Acts, chapter one, we read where He ascended into heaven, and He said that He would come back in the same manner as we seen Him go. He is sitting at the right hand of the throne of God making intercession for us to God the father. He is our advocate with the father. We can go to Him at any time, and He will hear our prayers.

His Word promises us in 1 John: 1:9, that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. It doesn't say He might, it says He will. That is a promise we can depend on.

Salvation is as simple as ABC:

A: We must ACCEPT Jesus

B: We must BELIEVE that Jesus died

for our sins.

C: We must CONFESS Him before men.

*******Romans chapter ten explains this to us.

In verse 13 of Romans: 10, we read that:

"Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

We can call upon God anywhere and anytime. We don't have to wait until we are in church, or when we can talk to a preacher, we can be saved anywhere. It is as simple as saying: Jesus forgive my sins and save my soul." When He knocks at the door of our hearts, we can simply open the door, and His spirit will come in and live in us.

If you're not saved, why don't you invite Jesus to come into your heart today. Then you can confess to others that Jesus has saved your soul. After that you need to ask God to lead you to a church where we can serve Him and have fellowship with other Christians. Read the Bible and pray daily so that you may become stronger in the Lord.

May God richly bless you,

Evangelist, Phyllis A. Powell

As long as the earth remains, there will be
wheat.jpg
seed time and harvest

Genesis 8:22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Seed Time and Harvest

There are numerous illustrations in the Bible about sowing seeds that we may obtain a harvest. What type of harvest are we seeking? The most important goal of any christian should be to seek for a harvest of souls.

Jesus said in Mark 16:15, that we are to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He was not just talking to preachers, for it is written in Acts chapter one that we are all to be witnesses to the uttermost parts of the earth. In order to accomplish that task, we must continue to sow seed into the lives of others that God may be able to bring forth a harvest in due time.

The Apostle Paul said in 1Corinthians 3:6: "I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase." When we witness of God's love to another, we plant seeds into their hearts. Someone else may come along and say something which waters that seed, then the Holy Spirit begins to speak to them, and God will bring the increase of another soul into the Kingdom of God.

ECCLESIASTES 11:6 reads: "In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good."

We are to continue to sow seed, even though, we may not see an immediate harvest. We do not know if something we may say to someone will take root in their heart and mind and eventually begin to grow. Sometimes it may be years before anything actually takes place because of what we may have said, and sometimes we may never know what became of the seed we planted, but God knows, and He is continually working in that person's heart to bring

about something good.

When we continue to sow seeds of faith, seeds of love, kindness and joy, we will see a harvest of the same things. When we sow tomatoes we expect to have a harvest of tomatoes. Or likewise any other type of fruit or vegetable we plant, that is what we expect to see. We do not plant cucumber seeds and expect to grow squash. It just doesn't work that way. The Bible says that we reap what we sow. If we sow joy we will reap joy, if we sow kindness, we will reap kindness. For example if we treat people good, and do everything we can to help others, God does not forget that. When we need help, God will send people to help us. When we give, God gives to us in return, but we do so in the spirit of love.

I am not advocating that we should fall for any scam that comes along and give away our hard earned money and valuable time to people who are wealthy and don't need our help, but there are those out there who are truly in need, and God expects us to do what we can. We must sow our seed into good ground and be led by the Holy Spirit concerning those we choose to give to. God's word gives us guidelines as to the proper way to give. You will find some of those in the following scriptures:

Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it .

1Corinthians 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you, good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

These are just a few of the ways in which the Bible admonishes us to give, but there are many other ways to give and sow seeds than just by our monetory giving. For example, we can give clothing to the naked, food to the hungry, shelter to the homeless, and comfort to those who are hurting. We can give of our time and our energy by visiting the sick and the bereaved. Even if we are not able to do some of the things I have mentioned, we can give a very important part of ourselves when we pray for others.

In conclusion, never stop sowing seed. Sow good seed in good ground, and expect a plentiful harvest. God promised this in Psalms 126:5-6, when His word was spoken by the Psalmist David:

"They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him."

"Praise God from whom all blessings flow!"
